Blackberry works straight out of the box, I know I'm in Spain but the idea is the same, I can either use the phone to configure the account, or often easier is to do it online.
In my case, i go to
BlackBerry Internet Service and login with my account details, provided at the time of buying your blackberry and goto add account. enter the details as you would for MS outlook or any other client, and it should start picking up emails on your phone shortly after.
I've never used additional software to get emails from UH servers.
