Increase in Spam in Digests?

I check the quarantine digests carefully every day, even though I can only remember one false positive in the year or so since you adopted Mailfoundry. Up until now I've been getting 3 to 5 messages listed on each digest. However, since about a week ago I've noticed a big increase in the number of spams listed in the digest: for example 29, 45, and 19 today on the three main email addresses that I monitor.

It's only a problem in that it now takes longer to check the quarantine digests, but I wondered if anything had been changed in the Mailfoundry appliance and if anyone else had noticed the same thing?

I should have added that I've noticed no increase in the amount of spam actually getting through the filters!

I'm not sure what you worried about, at least its blocking the spam that would normally be landing in your inbox!

We ran an update on the mailfoundry's on Friday, and your not the first person to say they are seeing more spam listed in the digest.

I will email MailFoundry to check its nothing 'wrong' and just part of the update.

I think I remember that anything detected as 100% sure that its spam or virus used to be deleted and did not feature in the digest, is it possible that these emails are now being reported in the digest?

I have noticed an increase in spam in my inbox, spam in the digests and false positives. This began about a week ago.

Hi Matt

You should report this to the helpdesk so we can assist you in finding out why, its not related to this topic which is about additional spams listed in the digest (correctly caught).

Thanks,

We found a problem with the blacklists in use (RBL) on our MailFoundry3 appliance which meant a lot of spam was not being blocked from known spammers, and instead blocked due to content - meaning a lot more spam was shown in the digests.

This has now been corrected.

The problem also had a knock on effect of more spam reaching a lot of peoples inbox's because known spammers with content that was not filtered were able to email you. This is also corrected.

So digests should be back to normal in 24 hours, and a lot of people noticing an increase in spam will also see that reduce again to minimal levels within 24 hours.

Thank you,
