Few more Q's

1. If i ping my name servers nothing happens is this because they are still being updated?

2. When i signed up i opted for the DNS transfer rather than the domain name transfer , is it too late to transfer.

3. How do we transfer domains over and how much do they cost to transfer?

4. Im currently updating my old host so that DNS of my domain name points towards my new reseller account it gave me an option for name server only no ip address will this work or does it need both ip and name address.

5. One of my clients is running a forum, when i come to transfer the account over, can i create the account first on the reseller panel then point the DNS to UH server so i can test e.t.c

In relation to question 4, i checked with my host and they are suggesting to create a subdomain called ns1.domainname.com and ns2.domainname.com do i need to do this or has this allready been done.

Bit confusing or am i just being Dumb

No...the servers don't appear to respond to PINGing, probably blocked.

I imagine you have to ask your old host to change the TAG, UH very quickly updated the nameservers for me after I did this.

3. How do we transfer domains over and how much do they cost to transfer?
Change the TAG to UNITEDHOSTING. If it's just an alias for your existing account, it costs nothing

4. Im currently updating my old host so that DNS of my domain name points towards my new reseller account it gave me an option for name server only no ip address will this work or does it need both ip and name address.
The nameservers will resolve to the IP address....I think!

5. Yes, you can add the site through your reseller panel and then preview the site using the url similar to http://servername.xssl.net/thedomain.com

In response to your idea of creating subdomain in question 4. No, you do not need to do this. You need to do exactly what we have described in your earlier post. If your registrar really is incapable of making the DNS delegation then you can always consider transferring your domain to us and we can then make the change. Email support@unitedhosting.co.uk if you want to do this.

Thanks for the responses, The domains are held with oneandone. The domain i added the name server addresses to cannot access my UH account. This is a DNS Report of the name...

Your NS records at the parent servers are:

ns1.domainname.co.uk. [NO GLUE; No A record]
ns2.domainname.co.uk. [NO GLUE; No A record]

[These were obtained from h.gtld-servers.net]

I have no were on the oneandone control panel to add any IP address along side the name server.

Ok i managed to point using the IP Address rather than the name servers and now the website is pointing to UH but i get the login screen for the warthog.xssl.net server rather than me home page. What am i missing now?

Well after much effort , its 1&1 that are at fault, they dont allow the name server and ip addresses to both be entered. So mail sent simon for domain transfer

Sorry for butting in, but - I don't know about 1&1, but with UKReg there's nowhere alongside the dns addresses to add the ip addresses, and it specifically says 'no ip addresses' - and this is where you put your ip address. Crazy, but true.
e.g. ns1.yourdomain.com, followed by a space, followed by the ip address. Maybe it's the same with 1&1?

Guess that you can't use oneandone for domains that are also nameservers then. Not exactly the best of services.

1&1 have only fairly recently allowed customers "full DNS management" but IMO it's far from that. You can change the nameservers (but from the post here not to IPs), the WWW A record and the MX records. That's it. Not what I'd call full management.
