Sooner or later, yea. This'll probably be the year I finally get my Mini converted to unleaded. It's got to the point where I have to make a choice between keeping it authentic or being able to drive it. But that kinda highlights my point too, leaded petrol was (and still is being) phased out. It's taken many years and it'll take a few more before the last few petrol stations who supply it to classic car owners stop selling it completely, if that ever happens.

In the early days of unleaded, artificial price differentials were used to persuade consumers and manufacturers to adopt unleaded. Car tax based on CO2 emissions is exactly the same principle.

Apparently it is, and will be £195 - at the moment, but not if I spend a bit to get a new one. It was not made clear at the time by the pub landlord (who was the only one listening to the budget) which vehicles were affected by what I now know is a new higher bracket. But you should have heard the arguments after this was announced, about what constitutes a "gas guzzler". I get 33-35mpg - apparently better than a neighbour with an old Vauxhall. Since more than half of us there use Defenders or Discoveries the atmosphere got heated, and had to be cooled by more pints of ale...........
