| XP Install Problems Hi All,
I'm just having a few problems installing a fresh Windows XP Professional to a pc here... it had XP Pro on it about 3 months ago, it then was upgraded to Vista and now the user wants XP back on it! When I boot from the disk, it gets stuck on "setup is inspecting your computer's hardware configuration" at the very beginning and will remain like that for as long as I leave it, any ideas what could be causing this?
Thanks for you help in advance! |

| Your best bet is to reformat the hard drive and start from scratch.
I know that this will mean reloading all previous programmes installed, but it will give you a "clean" install and this way you can be sure that there will be no residual problems resulting from downgrading from Vista to XP.
I made the mistake of upgrading from IE 7 to IE 8 and downgraded again - but ever since I did that I've had ongoing residual problems.
Another solution would be to upgrade to Windows 7, which is a much slimmer beast than Vista. You cannot upgrade from XP to Vista, but you can upgrade from Vista to Windows 7.

| Hi Vger,
Thank you for getting back to me, I've been playing with the pc all day, and after a few hours of formating / changing hard-drives, swapping ram around etc etc, I pulled out the Belkin Wireless Adapter from a pci slot in the pc and the install proceeded without a problem at all, so it turns out the wireless card was halting the install!! |

| Never liked Belkin stuff - overpriced for what it is.

| Yes, I use Netgear and the cheaper alternative LinkSys.

| I recommend that you format the drive then reinstall if the problem still there. this is the fastest way to do so.

| Re: First of All, you have to format the drive as previous OS has been installed then check your BIOS boot priority make CD Drive first. If still you find any trouble, you should call your hardware vendor! |
