THIS THREAD HAS BEEN UPDATED WITH NEW INFORMATION - Monday 8th Oct 15:02PM
We have done the first hand full of live servers now, and spent today ironing out the small bugs that our test environment could not have found. Below is an updated summary of what to expect from these exciting upgrades:
THE MAINTENANCE WINDOW:
We will be performing the maintenance between 10PM on the day your server is listed below, through until 11AM the next morning. During this time the control panel will be unavailable to you.
Towards the end of the maintenance we have to reboot the server to a new Operating System and Kernel - so there will be a couple of minutes downtime. No other disruption is to be expected, but this is maintenance.
THE RESULTS:
o Control Panel Upgrade [New look, easier to use, and much faster!]
o Stacked Logins [Resellers can move to Sites, and to Users, and all the way back without Logging in and out]
o New Features [WebDav Support, New Powertools, DNS Controls, Disk Reporting, and More!]
o PHP5 is here! [Sites can choose PHP 4.4.4 or PHP 5.2.4]
o Software Updates [including phpmyadmin, awstats, mysql (4.1.20) and more!
o Operating System Update - Moving to latest Centos 4.5 and latest Kernels
You can expect more than the above to appear, but you'll have to wait and see!
CONTROL PANEL LOGIN URLS: will change, for example if you are a reseller on blackbird the login would change from:
https://blackbird.xssl.net:19638/web...er/resellercp/
To:
https://blackbird.xssl.net:19638/reseller/
Sites and users can continue to use
www.domain.com/admin and
www.domain.com/user USAGE EMAILS: will be sent to site admin's when disk quota exceeds 95% usage, or less than 5MB of actual space. These will be sent every 1 HOUR until the space is either cleaned up to below these thresholds or upgraded. This is because running out of space has severe effects on services including email and MySQL for your site!
MAILFOUNDRY SPAM FILTERING: Will be turned off during the upgrade process, because ensim edits MX records when it processes the upgrade for each site. There is no much we can do about this so you will need to expect more spam during the day of your upgrade.
CUSTOM MX ENTRIES: Some customers have custom MX entries pointing email to external mail services such as exchange servers and google. We have found that these can SOMETIMES be reset by Ensim during the upgrade. We do our best to preserve these settings and check them from a backup at the end. But if you are concerned or have any mail trouble then this is the first thing to check when the upgrade is announced 100% complete on your server - support can assist as necessary.
USING PHP5: By default sites will remain on PHP4 (upgraded to 4.4.4) but you can choose to use PHP5 (5.2.4) on any site you wish simply by adding the following two lines to an .htaccess file in the sites html folder:
Action php5-script /interpreters/php5-script
AddHandler php5-script .php
The only limitation we have found is that this will not work currently on the preview urls and therefore the shared ssl either.
