NTL users experiencing connectivity problems

We have numerous reports over the past couple of weeks of NTL users experiencing connectivity problems to sites hosted by us.

This issue has been reported to NTL engineers who are working on the problem. Note this is a problem that only NTL will be able to resolve as it is not a specific unitedhosting problem and is affecting connectivity from NTL to various UK ISP's.

This is also affecting blueyonder and Virginmedia customers as all 3 ISP's use the same network in many parts of the country.

Note the symptom is a loss of connectivity for a minute or so to sites and services, and this occurs intermittantly throughout the day at different times.

We will keep you updated as we here more information back.

We have now removed NTL from our peering arrangement in an attempt to stear traffic around the problem on there network.

This fix has been in place since this morning (19th Nov) and so far seems to have been received with positive feedback on some support tickets.

Anyone who has been experiencing regular problems with NTL/Virginmedia/Blueyounder should now find the connectivity has improved.

The fix is only temporary as we are steering around a problem that NTL has to fix, and removing a peering with a large provider costs tens of thousands of pounds a year in additional bandwidth costs on other networks, so we will need to remove this fix soon, once we have managed to get some kind of realistic response from NTL regarding fixing the problem.

If you have any questions or concerns then please do use our helpdesk, and I will do my best to keep feeding any relevant information into this thread.

Many thanks for your patience.
