New server hardware

I thought some customers may be interested to know that UnitedHosting is now using AMD OPTERON cpu's for new server deployment.

Until today we have been exclusively using Intel Xeon cpu's in our servers. But new AMD 64-bit processors in our own server tests seem to be outperforming the Intel processors and utilising a fair bit less power too - something which is very important as the cost of power in UK datacenters has increased 3 fold!

We are taking delivery this week of 10 new servers, each with spec:

- Supermicro Chassis
- DUAL Opteron DualCore 265 (represents 4 processors total)
- 4GB DDR 400 ECC Ram
- 3 x Western Digital Caviar Raid Edition 250GB HDD
- 3ware Hardware Raid

These servers will be going into Redbus interhouse alongside 10 new Dell supplied Xeon servers and represent large UK based expansion to accomodate increased UK sales and an increase in existing customers wanting to relocate from USA to UK based servers.

Update: Feedback from customers who have moved from our older USA Xeons to these new Dualcore Opterons has been "amazing".

The new servers show a noticable improvement in performance of service. If your currently on a USA based server and a UK customer, ask support to move your site to the UK - you will be astonished at how much quicker this new hardware will allow us to provide service to you.

These new servers are absolute top of the line, no expense spared.
