mailing list software

Hi,

Apologies for starting a new thread, but have 2 distinct hosting questions regarding the same client...

I have a client [duh] that has a 4,000 strong opt in list that they
email to around once a month. Currently they use this software to send
the list:
Welcome To Dada Mail - Mailing List Manager

For those that don't know its a web based list manager running via Perl that can batch and manage mailing lists. It can connect directly to the smtp server (using authentication), and literally trickle through emails to it, so server loads are kept way down.

Is this kind of thing allowed on the reseller accounts?

TIA,

H

Hello

As long as the requirements of the script are mentioned on our hosting pages then yes it should run no trouble at all.

When they begin to use too much server resource. We do not have an exact science to share with you, but if you think your scripts may use a lot of resources then we may not be the best host for you, as we are far far more vigilent and hands-on with monitoring and managing our servers than most of our competitors (for the benefit of all customers sharing the server).

Matt,

I understand vigilance, and its to be commended. I'm currently looking at a load of 8 on a dreamhost server ?!?

At the end of the day, this script logs into the smtp server and uses that to send the email, so assuming the script stays under the threshold of your server limits, are there then any limits to the amount of emails that can be sent via the smtp server?

The sending options within this particular script are as follows:

Quote:
Send: 1<>60 message(s) per batch
and then wait: 1<>60 seconds, before the next batch.
(The process sleeps between generating batches)

I generally have it set at a maximum of 15 messages every 60 seconds, depending on the time of day. That means the 4k list is finished in around 4.5 hours.

Based on those stats, is this sort of thing ok?

It sounds like those stats are reasonable.
