Shared Hosting - PHP5

Hi,

I know this is a likely a commonly asked question but I just can't seem to find the definitive answer.

I've read a few threads across the forum and there are a few references to PHP5 being rolled out, but there doesn't seem to be an announcement posted about it (though there was a reference to the announcement I couldn't find!). The info page for shared hosting though claims each user is given their own copy of PHP which can be PHP4 or PHP5 depending upon requirements.

So...does UnitedHosting provide PHP5 on it's shared servers. And if so, is it the proper module version or a cgi? The host I'm currently with uses the latter and I find it's frustratingly restrictive for some of the things I want to do which is the reason I need to move.

Our shared accounts do now offer PHP 4 or 5. The default is PHP 4 (cgi) but you can enabled PHP 5 (cgi) using a couple of lines in a .htaccess file.

Unfortunately that's the solution I'm using with my current host and I need to find a dedicated PHP5 server. Thanks for the fast reply though Simon.

PHP4 is the default installed version, but php5 can be enabled quite simply by adding a couple of lines to a htaccess file. However, both versions are cgi based which United Hosting use instead of modules for the extra security they offer, which is a good thing.
