Post Hi I have a question regarding the reseller basic account?

I have around 20 websites all are small site in teams of size and are httml with very few pictures. My old supplier is saying the allocation is somewhat below industry expectation. Is this just a scare tactic, is anyone using the basic account and how do they find it?

There are hosts that sell reasonable amounts of space per package and have nice healthy low loaded servers (which naturally leads to less possible hardware problems down the line) and then there are hosts which oversell resources per server in the hope that the majority of customers on that server don’t actually use anywhere near what they have been given. We do not believe in overselling. All our packages are made up of fair quotas for the high level of service that we offer. Of course, what it boils down to is how important it is for you to have a reliable host consistently offering 99.99% uptime across its network or whether you need large amounts of space for very few £’s and are willing to put up with a less reliable service.

Simon I completely agree with your reply, united hosting was recommended to me however im just exploring the avenues obviously uptime is more important than excess space. But no one can advise on what bandwidth is used on a basic site.

The average website is just a few MB's in size, taking that into account our quota's could be seen as very healthy.

You said your own sites are quite small, you will find it extremely hard to use up 3 GB of disk space in my opinion, and if you do you can buy more space for the package at reasonable cost (£3 for 1GB more). Remember our space is backed up 4 times per day to an offsite location, so the space we provide could be seen as premium compared to other hosts, who maybe dont have the same standards in data backup.

It's impossible for us to say how much bandwidth a "basic site" uses. Do you not have any usage stats from where they are hosted now? If you at least know the number of visitors you can make an arbitrary calculation as you will also know the size of the pages on your site.

i.e. for a given page the bandwidth used per visit is the sum of all the parts (the HTML page plus any graphics, CSS files etc). So, multiplying this by the number of visits you expect per month will give you the bandwidth consumed by a page.
