Pre-sales question

Just popping in from Denmark

Having seen all the positive reviews for UH I am almost ready to recommend you to a client of mine.

Just one question: They would need to be able to create a bunch of FTP users (their clients) for transferring images for print between them and the print service houses and for checking the material before handing it over.

Also the files should not be accessible from the web, or at least not unless they provide the exact link for the files.

Is this easily done on a hosted/reseller package? I don't have experience with the Parallels/Exim panels so bear with me.

They currently have a TERRIBLE host in Denmark, and I've been searching all over the place for a close host with good up- and download performance and with some good support and email services since these are also of paramount importance for my client.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Regards,

Michael Englyst

Yes the users can upload files to a NON web folder, this is no problem at all.

I am sure you'll be very hapy with the response times should you ever need to contact the support team, we're here 24x7x365 to reply promptly - feel free to shoot an email to support@unitedhosting.co.uk anytime to test it before signing up

Thanks Matt.

Regarding the 'bunch' of FTP users, is it easy to setup and administer regarding login/passwords and filesystem rights? I couldn't decipher the screenshots section to answer my question

Each user has their folder /home/user/ and this cannot be changed, so files would be uploaded to this folder which is outside the web root. There is also a folder for each user called public_html for placing files which can be accessed via www.domain.com/user but it sounds like you wouldn't be using this folder.

Thank you,

Ok the user folder looks like it's the way to go, but nothing is set in stone yet. Is it possible to specify a specific folder (on a subdomain of my choice for example) for each user? That would have been nice so I could make a secure PHP site for my client to keep track of the FTP uploads.

Just asking so I know what to tell them when they ask.

We've decided to sign up tomorrow. When ordering on a saturday how long can we expect it takes for the account to be up and running?

And thanks for all the great feedback Matt!

Hi

Regardless of the day of the week we ask that you allow upto 24 hours for your order to be completed, this is because we manually check and verify each order due to the amount of fraudulent orders web hosts receive. We are here 24x7 if you have any questions once your order is placed or require a rush putting on it.

Thank you,

I see this question wasn't answered !

You can give each user a subdomain, by ticking 'Create a User Subdomain' when you create a new user in cPanel. It's easy

.htaccess could be used to stop http access.

Your .htaccess would look something like this:

Code:
<Limit GET POST>
Order Deny,Allow
Deny from All
</Limit>
