reselling and domain registration

apologies if this is answered elsewhere, i've had a nose around and have picked up some tips but can't seem to find an answer to a few things.

if i buy a reselling account from you can i also buy domain names through you on behalf of my clients?

also... if i bring in clients who are transfering hosting from their old host to my reselling account, is it possible to transfer their domain name registration too?

any help or pointers you could give me on this would be greatly appreciated.

You can yes. UH can also set you up with a Enom account with lower prices than if you signed up for one yourself. The advantage of the enom account is you can maintain transparency as a reseller. You are free to register domains anywhere though and just change the nameserver addresses to point at the nameservers you will be issued with.

Generally the simplest and cheapest way is to just get them to request their registrar to point the nameservers for the domain to your reseller nameserver addresses. But yes transfer is possible. Or if you get the Enom account then you could transfer the domains to that. For US domain when you transfer you are normally charged the cost of the domain renewal fee and the registration is extended by a year.

Hope that helps but UH can confirm more.

Andy

p.s. There is also a reseller forum which you will get access to on signing up that will provide more help on these sort of topics.

reselling + domain registration: recipe?

so in order to transfer a client's domain (.com) and website to a UH reselling account i should:

1) apply for reselling account
2) create the host account
3) ftp the website files across
4) apply for enom account + fill it with credit
5) contact the current registrar (as i think it may be locked)
6) transfer domain to my enom account
7) configure domain to point to the host account
8) pop out a bottle of champers

i'm sure i'm up to the job, but steps 5, 6 and 7 are uncharted territory. are there likely to be technical difficulties in these last steps? and if so, any tips?

thanks for taking the time to help!

ps these forums have been reeeally handy. nice one.

You've got it in eight.
Number 5 is the only one likely to cause any hassle, but generally it's "easy when you know how", a lot easier than thinking about it before you actually do it.
