CGI Forums

Hi,
It says on your Terms page that you don't like large CGI forums. I am looking for hosting for a YaBB forum which is currently running on a CGI script. So I'm wondering what you call "large", mine is currently just using a few MBs of space but over a GB of bandwidth per week. Would it be OK on a Pearl script, or would I need to grasp the PHP nettle?

Cheers.

It's very difficult for us to define a "large" forum. It's more a case of try it and see. If we see your site is causing an unreasonable load then we would ask you to either convert the forum to php based or in extreme cases recommend an upgrade or alternative host.

Yabb forums seem particularly bad in terms of usage. We would certainly recommend you take some time to convert at least to the PHP version of YaBB to avoid possible issues.

There is no PHP version of Yabb (as far as I know), the choice is between CGI and Pearl. Even then the only difference is the extension after the main Yabb file, eg. YaBB.cgi or YaBB.pl. But thanks for the response, I'll consider the options.

There was a port of Yabb to PHP/MySQL which is still available via SourceForge but the team who worked on it now develop SMF (Simple Machines forum):

See http://www.yabbse.org/ for the full info...
