FrontPage Link bars disappearing

Here is a recent problem that I had and spent countless hours trying to figure it out.

When I updated my meta tags and title I then published my site to the HTTP server. I then accessed my site to see if everything was ok, it wasn't. All of my link bars were missing. I then loaded the site in frontpage again. My link bars were there but for some reason the site would not publish that way.

After hours of searching the net I finially decided to reselect the platform (menubar:Files:Properties) and reselect the theme (menubar:format:theme).

That worked. So I concluded that because I changed something that was common among all of my pages and changed the area where the CSS was linked (the meta tags) it somehow altered the style and, in a sense, corrupted the site. I am assuming that this problem has to do with FrontPage using DHTML. It's touchy.

I hope this helps anyone who has similar problems.

LOL!

I wouldn't be using it if I didn't want to extend that ability to my clients. I am really doing it so that I can learn more about it.

I just found out another nasty little tid bit. FrontPage + PHP = bad juju. I tried making my index a PHP file so that I can put my hidden PHP hit counter in. Every bit of dynamic data and all dynamic objects that FP created was gone! It really does not like PHP!

I am going to have a heck of a FAQ forum on my site for sure!

I'm getting an aweful lot of these types of hits:

Code 304 - Not Modified

What does that mean? I have never received that one unless that's when I am publishing or something

Its not an "error" code, its safe to have these.

Never mind. I was getting excited at all my hits. they are all mine from publishing! LOL! It'll be a few weeks before I start getting hits from the search engines.

well it seems you got over 400 unique visits in december.. not bad for a newish site.

A Code 304 (Not Modified) response is generated by the server if a document hasn't been updated since the last time it was requested by the user and therefore there was no need to actually send the files for this document.
