Internet Explorer Opening dozens of active connections

Hi All,

I am having a problem when accessing my Joomla sites, or Zencart demo site using Internet Explorer 6. Non Database sites seem fine, and it only happens with IE6, other browsers are fine.

I use IE6 as a testbed, because so many people still use it.

My IP address has recently been getting blocked by the United Hosting Firewall, because of having over 300 active connections on Port 80

A quick check using netstat at the command prompt in Windows XP confirmed this. As soon as I open IE6 and browse to one of my sites, instantly there are dozens of active connections, it seems the more pages I click, the more connections are created.

I had litterally hundreds of active connections. A quick test showed it only happening with IE6, Firefox is fine, and Opera too.

I tried connecting to Joomla / Zen cart sites on other hosts using IE6 and the number of active connections was normal.

The problem only happens with my Joomla / Zencart sites using IE6 on the Untied web servers.

I have tried several old computers here, all with IE6 and all giving me the same dozens of open connections.

I have anti-virus software and firewall software, and XP is uptodate. Also I ran a scan a few hours ago - all clear.

So, I am hoping a kind volunteer, who still has IE6 installed, would click on my site Welcome to Sandwich News or Home and then run netstat from the command prompt on their computer, and see if they get dozens of active connections to the server.

Incidentally, I also get about 50 local connections being created at the same time.

Anyway, if anyone can spare a few minutes to check using IE6 for me, I will be extremely grateful.

Thanks
Mike

Tried both sites, maybe 20 connections tops were listed in netstat up.

Thank you

Thanks for that,

Then it must be a problem on both of my old machines running IE6, because they both had over a hundred.

Much appreciated

If a trojan did get past your anti-virus software then the first thing it would do is to tell the anti-virus software to ignore it, or else disable its operation completely.

In XP you have the option to roll back to an earlier saved version, and I'd suggest you try that.
