create svn repo on live site

Good evening.

I'm stuck with a problem. We are starting to use SVN as our versioning system for development and it's my job to create repo's for our current sites.

The thing I dont know how to do is to commit the "live" site as the initial "trunk" without causing the site to go down and without copying the live site to a temporary folder...

I need to do this for ~40 sites, 1 of which is 11Gb (I'd also like to be able to exclude a few directories from this 11Gb site)

If anyone has any ideas. it would be brilliant

Cheers

Mark

Not a great Repo expert, but I think you create a Tag, lock it, and then export that to the live site.

You could remove directories before locking the Tag.

Send a message via MSN to Alex.
Export files to a folder on your server, then make a symlink in the webroot pointing to those files.

the initial problem is getting the whole live site in the repo. as I can just run svn update on the live root.
