Question secure server information / help plse

morning

i have a reseller account (to gain the extra space & bandwidth my own site consumes) and currently have a little spare of both that I'm going to pass onto a friend who is looking at setting up her first online (small) store... I have searched the forum and we/she is currently looking at using www.oscommerce.org as a shopfont and worldpay for payment processing but I'm a little unsure about the secure server side of things and would appreciate any advise someone could pass on... do I now need to purchase a GeoTrust SSL Certificate (US$99 per annum) for her to ensure secure transfer of payment details? I've never created an online store before nor I have ventured into the area of secure servers etc so any guidance would be appreciated.

thanks for your time

Check your reseller portal page you got in your sign up email. It tells you how to access the shared SSL on the servers.

Don't forget to check out the OSCommerce community forums. There's a lot of info there!

https://servername.xssl.net/customerdomain.com will allow you to view a clients page via secure server on our shared SSL certificate.

You only really need the payment sections on https as https is slower than regular http.

If course if you do get your own $99 SSL certificate then files can be accessed directly from https://customerdomain.com

thank you both for taking the time to help

I was a little confused over the 'shared' certificate *blush* but now I understand the differences this will make so thanks for expanding on that Matt

ty piper for the osc forum reminder... I'm drowing in their links/posts and reading as much (huge learning curve) but the emerging bald patches aside I do think it's starting to come together

thanks again
greatly appreciated

When I go to go to the checkout on OScommerce it takes me to https:// - it says file not found - how do I overcome this problem? do i have to acquire my own ssl certificate so that oscommerce can view https://blahblahblah ?
Kind regards

hi dan

not sure this is of any help but I'm using OScommerce and a shared certificate with no problems at all. is it just the checkout procedure that generates the 404 or is it all secure links?

hi
nope, as far as i recall the install was straight forward with regard to keeping the files in the same folders as a install when one has their own certificate.

as an example the path to login for mine is showing as...

https://galaxy.xssl.net/domainname.com/login.php

galaxy being the server I'm on and domainname.com replaced with the domain being used

the login page is stored at /var/www/html

from my configuration file is the following...

define('HTTPS_SERVER', 'https://galaxy.xssl.net/domainname.com');
define('ENABLE_SSL', true); // secure webserver for checkout procedure?
