Thanks for looking into this, Simon. I'll just keep watching this space.

For reference, as asked, I use Windows 98se. I was going to change to XP, but then started to read about all of the problems with it and decided to wait for XP second edition! When using Microsoft Operating Systems it is always best to wait until the second edition - by that time they should have ironed all of the major bugs out of it! Rhea

p.s. When using Windows 98se, but with IE5.5 I did have this problem with only being able to save web images as bmp's. It seems to be the combination of 98se and IE 6 that works. Perhaps it's a browser versus server security issue? I notice that since installing IE6 McAfee Online Virus Scan now lets me work a lot faster online. Previously everything was slowed down because of all of the security holes in 5.5 and earlier.

"That's what I'm using and it doesn't work for me." Oh Hum, back to the drawing board! I am forced to admit that I have run out of possible answers. Over to the more technically knowledgeable! Rhea

Maybe a MIME types issue.

Found this on Microsoft Support, also saw other references to download managers interfering with saving of images - but this seems the best bet

That's all from me, now bowing out - Rhea

I get bmp only with IE6.1 - but can save as jpg or gif (depending on image) with Mozilla 1.4, Firebird 0.7 and Opera 7.21 - all on Win2K

Looks like a Mickey$oft issue, another reason for not using IE.....

Ok, I tried to follow this conversation, but color me stupid . . .

What is/are the lines I should add to .htaccess?

AddType application/.jpg
AddType application/.gif

Or is it AddType download/.jpg

I don't know what to add to see if .htaccess fixes the problem!

Also, will fixing the MIME types via .htaccess fix the problem? Or is it still something that will need to be reported to Ensim and "fixed" on their end with the implementation of subdomains? (I guess ultimately what I'm asking is that whether or not there is a solution in the foreseeable future or if I should go ahead and move all my image directories to the main domain?)

As images are corectly available for other browsers this cannot be related to MIME or .htaccess

What we are seeing is covered here:

http://support.microsoft.com/default...;en-us;Q260650

Not sure if the 3 solutions are relevant, though. The 3rd cause is related to the way the misbehaving page is accessed, so it could be down to the way Ensim provides access to subdomains.

Another "FINAL" thought!

I have been wondering why the same system setups behave differently, and thought of this. When installing a newer version of IE, and when asked if I want IE to be the 'default' browser I always click no - because I don't want it interfering with the operation of other browsers. I also uncheck the box that says 'Internet Explorer should check to see if it is the default browser'. So okay, IE doesn't launch automatically when I have a connection, and I do have to click on the icon to launch it, but I am wondering if not selecting IE as the default browser causes it to behave slightly differently - and hence I have no problems with the saving of images in their original format. Just a thought. Rhea

Thumbs up I love UH!

The problem has been solved. A fix was applied to the server and now my subdomain images work like normal

I love UH. You guys are always right on top of things.

We have so far only added this fix to Storm and Hornet. We just want to make sure their are no "side-effects".

I sent an email a few weeks ago and one last week, but never got a reply. It's the reseller one I'm only wanting to close, my personal account I'm keeping open.

Hi

I'm having similar problems to this on the corsair server.
I set up a subdomain named test to test my website design but nothing is getting cached by Internet Explorer (IE6 on Windows XP) and the page appears before my images have uploaded. Also the images only save as bitmaps.

Andy

The images not caching in subdomains is an ongoing problem that has been raised with Ensim.
