how to Preventing Directory Listing
right now i know how to do it by using htacess

i have heard there are other ways to do it, anyone knows?

I think DIR listings are off by default on our servers..

They are. You actually have to turn them on, using .htaccess. They are off by default.

Make sure you put an index.htm file in the dir

You really don't have to, since directory listings are off by default. Put a bunch on images into a folder, and vistit the folder using your browser. You'll get a 403.
