| Opinions on PayPal ? Hi All,
I'm thinking of getting a PayPal account (business) so that I can accept CC payments on my site.
I've read all their FAQs but was looking for real user comments on them.
Does anyone here use PayPal to accept payments? Is it easy to use? Any horror stories or gotchas?
Thanks a lot for any info,
<Mohican/> |

| Re:Opinions on PayPal ? Paypal is not too good for the customer who is not already a member of their 'system'. They do require a new customer to register with them which some do not like. They also send frequent spam mails out to all registered customers. This could put some folk off. But now they are owned by E-bay things just may get better.
The aim of selling is to enable the punter to part with their money as easily as possible. Put hurdles in their way and they will cry off. |

| Re:Opinions on PayPal ? Yeh, the having to register bit is a pain but I think I heard that registration may soon be more integrated into just the normal order form so it will seem less of a pain for customers. Apart from the registration it's a great system. They'll soon accept debit cards aswell. For processing credit cards we use Paysystems (paysystems.com). Very happy with them.

| Re:Opinions on PayPal ? Yes the registration is part of the purchase now. They will enter all of their info and submit it all at once like a normal credit card order form. It's quite convenient now.

| Re:Opinions on PayPal ? Paypal works great for me. I really like being able to e-mail payment links for specific amounts for one time charges. Also, the rates are cheaper than any other way I've found to send money online.
I've heard plenty of horror stories, but never had any problems myself. |

| Re:Opinions on PayPal ? The admin interface is out of this world!
(designed by ravio) www.perlbill.com is where its from. Its $199 which is cheap compared with a few other scripts. The developers release updates often and are available on messengers.
Its good for any sort of sales/support not just hosting!
There is a demo on the perlbill site. We are doing some modifications and testing on our install of it before we let customers use it
Regards,
Matt

| Re:Opinions on PayPal ? Yep it certainly looks like the mutt nuts! Good luck with your testing I think it would probably be a bit of overkill for me seeing as I've not finished my site yet and not got any customers to play with it with me, LOL |

| Since this thread has been bumped now anyway ....
I chose to steer clear of PayPal 4 years ago after reading paypalsucks.com and finding similar horror stories elsewhere. Now I know it can't have been all that bad, but I just didn't like their heavy-handed nature — guilty till proven innocent (and how that affected access to funds) — so we bit the bullet and got a merchant account. For only a few hundred bucks a year we're able to show the same professional storefront (ie we accept Visa, MC, and Amex) as all the "big boys".
Having said all that (and not regretting anything), I recognize that times change; does anyone have any newer thoughts of agreement or disagreement on this? Good or bad experiences with PayPal, or with customers' impressions? |
