Email problem

Has anyone had this sort of problem with their email?

My computer is set up to automatically collect email every half-hour. About 3 days ago the collections failed although I didn't realise at the time. Yesterday I had a look at webmail on my control panel out of curiosity and found that there were over 300 emails waiting in my inbox.

I tried deleting some but after marking them, clicking the 'Delete' button and waiting till it had done it's stuff only to find that they were still there. If I tried to move them to another folder then new copies would appear in the specified folder but the originals remained in the Inbox. I found that I could not forward any emails either.

I am the only person accessing the mailbox but I'm still unable to do anything with my emails and the number is still building up - over 400 now.

Any suggestions would be appreciated?

What happens when you try to download them to your computer?

I normally use Fetchmail and after each attempt I get this in my logs:

fetchmail: Can't get lock. Mailbox in use
fetchmail: lock busy! Is another session active?
fetchmail: Lock-busy error on <my email address>
fetchmail: lock busy on server error while fetching from <my email address>
fetchmail: Query status=9 (LOCKBUSY)

I'm the only person to access this mailbox.

Do you have squirrelmail open at the same time?

If it is only you who can access the mailbox then even if the lock had been corrupted somehow and never closed then this should rest after a couple of mins inactivity so you shoudl be ok.

Have you contacted UH support to see if they can restart the sendmail process, this would hopefully fix the prob.

Simon

p.s. I also use fetchmail and have never had a problem using it with the UH servers that I`ve noticed, but then again i don`t check the logs extensivly, if there was a prob its always sorted itself out.

Check the Mb allowance you set for that email address. If it's all used up that might cause the problems you're having.

Hi Barry
Yes I had the same problem with a customer mailbox on Friday.
I deleted the mailbox and set it up again, but in the end had to get UH support to fix a UserPrefs problem.
Sorry didn't reply yesterday, birthday party, and my keyboard wasn't pushing the right keys!!

Thanks to all who offered advice.

The problem turned out to be an old lock file on the server and it was removed by support. I don't know why, after a number of years without problems, it should have happened.

I then disappeared in a flood of emails.
