Flash rotating menu application - advice wanted

Hi,
I've seen a good Flash rotating menu on:
Amazon.co.uk: low prices in Electronics, Books, Music, DVDs & more

Click on Sports and Leisure on the left, then scroll down the page. It's a product carousel with left/right scroll bars.

I have a client who wants this idea incorporating into his website (I know how to add Flash to an html page - that's not the question). I suspect that it's an off-the-shelf application as I've seen it elsewhere. I guess it can be set up with a number of still images and the Flash application does the rest.

Can anyone advise where I can get hold of this?

Thanks.

There's been a similar Flash menu in the Net Magazine as a tutorial - issue 166 (summer edition) it's almost identical - a rotating menu in Flash with supporting code on the CD (only they have a TV in the centre which displays content based on the selected image but that should be removable).

However, that's an old copy now so you'd have to buy it directly from the publisher: Home - .net magazine. Tutorial was written by Paul Wyatt.

I'm not aware of an off-the-shelf solution but if you can get hold of the mag it should give you enough info so you can build it yourself.

PS: Tim - Amazon has different homepages depending on whether you are logged on or not, and different versions. If you can't see the menu try refreshing the page or scrolling down - sometimes it's quite far down the homepage and it may not show sports stuff, but it can also show items based on your recent purchases.

Hmmm, it required a change of browser to see the Flash. I'm on my Mac this afternoon and was using Firefox which showed a static version of the same products. Switched to Safari and the Flash worked. No idea why as both browsers are set up the same and I was logged into Amazon on both occasions.

None of which is very interesting or helps with an answer to the original question I'm afraid

Tim,

Flash does not have any native component that will do this. This menu was most likely custom programmed, though it might have been modification of someone else's code or component. You might something like it at flashcomponents.net; failing that, try searching flashkit.com's 'movies' section for 'rotating menu' or 'revolving menu' and see what you find.

A good actionscript programmer should be able to create this from scratch in about 3 or 4 hours, maybe less.

I think the reason you may have seen it elsewhere has more to do with trends, than off-the-shelf ... this kind of menu was used first on Kingdom Hearts 2, then amazon had it .. and before you know it it's all over the web. It's the kind of cool menu which makes you think - I want that on my site! but I guess in a year's time we'll be well and truly sick of it. Which doesn't stop me from wanting one my site though
