Orders not showing in osCommerce

We have a big problem with orders not showing up within the Admin control panel in our osCommerce site. The order itself works fine for the customer and our client is receiving her Paypal payment and notification- but none of the orders which have been made are showing up at all, in Administration -> Customers -> Orders.

I've also gone into the actual database and checked the orders and orders_total tables - both of these return an empty result set! So I can't even do the last-resort action i.e let the client have db access.

Anyone got any ideas?!

Thanks

As posted, several hundred times, on the osCommerce Forum:

Quote:
Pay Pal Standard Module
-----------------------

If you are using the default Pay Pal Module that comes with
osCommerce and are wondering why the orders don't get added
to the database, the stock updated, and that no order
confirmation e-mails get sent out - this is the reason.

You are reliant upon the customer hitting the 'Continue'
button on the Pay Pal website at the end of their purchase,
which then returns them to your website, updates the database,
updates the stock quantity, empties their shopping cart,
and sends the order confirmation e-mails out.

There are two solutions:

1. Use the official osCommerce Pay Pal IPN. This is the
only IPN module which begins with 'osCommerce'. It is
also the only IPN module with a completely new and
free-standing set of files - meaning that you don't
have to edit any other files in order to install it.

2. Go to your Pay Pal account, go to Profile, and
sign up for their Auto-Return service - which returns the
customer to your website automatically after a delay of a
few seconds. The return url you must provide is something
like this (adjust as necessary for your website):

http://www.yourdomain.com/checkout_process.php

This problem could also happen to other payment modules for some unknown (by that it is meant that it happens occasionally and randomly) reasons. So, as a precaution, you may want to install a contribution available from osc forums (just key in 'held order' in the contrib section search box), which would log orders that come to the confirmation page with order details, and in case you could not find an order like you mentioned in your post, you'd be able to find it in this 'held orders' list and by pressing a button the order will be removed to the normal order list. Some versions of this contrib add code to delete held orders. I suggest you comment out these code lines since the (deleting) code does not always behave the way it supposes to. You can always delete them manually when needed.

If using the osCommerce Pay Pal IPN module then "held orders" is already accomplished, because they are pre-stored before going to the Pay Pal site as "Preparing[Pay Pal IPN]" orders.
