Forum emails denied with 550 to hotmail.

Hello,
I have just added a forum to my website hosted by you, but all activiation email send (using the SNMP setting i use for email) are getting stopped by hotmail and i am getting a 550 error back.

I have been told this is because my domain does not have a valid SPF entry?

Can you advise?

Thanks.

Late

That looks fine. The following would also do - "v=spf1 mx a:mail.grindside.com -all" - as the "ip4:" part is basically a duplication of the mail.grindside.com part.

In the returned emails from hotmail it says the firefly server name instead of my hostname, could this also be causing the problem?

No, that's not a problem. It will only say firefly because the reverse lookup (i.e. using the IP to find a host name) is set to firefly.

Now you've got an SPF record you should ping the Hotmail support to let them know (and anytime you update it) - https://support.msn.com/eform.aspx?p...rid&ct=eformts

I have just tested and the email arrives on both yahoo and hotmail but it goes to the junk mail folder? This is an imporvement, but not ideal.

Is there any way round this?

You can try contacting Hotmail but the chances are you will not get a response from them, especially surrounding any sort of reasoning for emails heading to the junk folder.
