WordPress MU and BuddyPress

I have done a couple of WordPress Mutlti User installs with no problem. However I am trying to add BuddyPress to a MU install for a client and I get 500 internal server error every time. I have tried installing BuddyPress automatically and manually with the same result. I have increased PHP memory in case that was the problem with no luck. BuddyPress forums indicate others have had a similar problem but no one offers a solution as yet.

Has anyone on United Hosting tried a BuddyPress install? Or can anyone suggest what the problem might?

Thanks

If you are going to be using Buddy Press then you shoudl seriously start thinking about a dedicated server.

Duncan777,

I've had the same problem with Wordpress MU and Buddypress in the last couple of days. All is well until I click "Activate" for the buddypress plugin.

I've googled and found a couple of suggestions around editing php.ini and increasing the memory limit, but neither of these seem to work. Instead I just get the dreaded 500 error.

Let me know if you've either got it working / or not - as keen to know.

Thanks.

Question Same Problem

Hi, did anyone ever find a solution to this? I get an error 500 on my whole site if I activate buddypress. Have to go into my FTP software and delete the buddypress folder in plugins to fix it.

I only need it for a small internal school site (approx 40 users.) I'm not trying to create a monster!

I had to host my Buddypress site out of United Hosting due to this issue. I chose TMD Hosting in the States. It works great and they have Buddypress specialists (and WordPress MU specialists) on staff. They helped me out with and issue that really was my problem not theirs.

Thanks, I tried support but they were unable to help on this issue. As buddypress looks pretty good, I'll have to think about moving it over to another host. Thanks for the suggestion.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

I too would hate to host somewhere else to get this up and running.

BuddyPress is not suitable (IMHO) for shared hosting. You really need Dedicated or VPS.
