Magento Install Problems

I know some of you out there have installed Magento successfully, but I am having trouble installing it on the UH servers.

I followed the installation instructions at magento.com

Magento - Wiki - Installing Magento Via SSH

All seems ok, but then when I access the site it goes to the url

http://{mysite.com}/var/subdomain/pear/html/index.php/install/

I'm not sure why it is giving the /var/subdomain bit of it...

Appreciate any guidance anyone can offer me

Simon

Hi Simon,

I don't really use Magento, but I'm sure it works in a similar way to other CMS's, do you have a configuration.php file in your directory of the site?

This is a problem with installing Magento within a sub domain on Ensim/Parallels pro servers due to the way that sub domains are setup through mod_rewrite.
Magento will have to be installed in the site root or a sub directory without using a sub domain.
Once your account is migrated to a cpanel server however this problem will no longer occur.

Hi Tony,

Thanks for letting me know.
I only had it on a subdomain for testing, will move it to a website root. I assume then it will work perfectly?

Hi Tony,

I just realised I cant do it in the site root.

As a reseller, what if I created a new acount subdomain.website.com? Would that then work.

Thanks again for your help

yes creating a seperate site using the subdomain of choice will work fine, as its then not using the rewrite rules, and is acting as a site with its own apache config.

...and if you want to run a copy on a local install of XAMPP then Edith wrote this excellent article which has helped quite a few people:
