have uploaded everything to var/www/html/adam/
when I run the browser installation it wont create the database.
using 127.0.0.1 as hostname

but not sure what I should be putting for MYSQL database name and also MYSQL table prefix. Whatever I put I get this error: Anyone any ideas on what I'm doing wrong - it will be simple I have no doubt

| Unless you have your own dedicated server with full root access then you have to create a new (blank) database first, before you begin the install. You do this in your Ensim control panel.
Joomla (a.k.a. Mambo) also uses Lock Tables which is not by default supported by UH. If I remember correctly you need to search for LOCK TABLES in the code and comment the entries out - or else raise a Support Ticket with UH to get them turned on for your site.

Vger | I have created a blank database called "_joomla" which I then put in the database name and then put onestopdesigns.co.uk_ as my prefix.
It still says access denied..
Which code do I look in to find Lock Tables?
Thanks

Ad | Hi, Adam!
I've had (and currently have) MANY working installs of Joomla on my UH space without messing about with anything regarding "Lock tables". Your problem may be in the naming of your database. If you've used the UH control panel tools to create your new db, then it will be called "onestopdesigns_co_uk_-_joomla". Note that there are NO "dots" in the name.
HTH,
John Mc
EDIT: (forgot this bit ) - You don't need to worry about the prefix. Leave it alone. |

| Adam,
You might also want to take at look at installing a new wysiwyg editor for Joomla called JCE. It comes in two parts - JCE Editor Mambot and JCE Admin Component.
Both are easy to install following simple instructions.
This has been the one sore point with Joomla, but now it is solved. It is free too!
Go to http://www.cellardoor.za.net/jce/
Enjoy,

| Installing Joomla in a subdomain Greetings :-)
Firstly want to thank the United team for being so on the ball, very impressed!
I've installed Joomla in a subdomain and placed all files in var/www/shop.
Went through the installation at the subdomain address, with no problems....
However, the admin page is not functioning properly.. images and a menu are completely missing and the homepage has no template at all. Also when I log out of admin the page goes to the domain homepage ie magicmicros.com and not shop.magicmicros.com
Where am I going wrong?
Do I need to change the config anywhere?
Many thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

| Still can't find a cure Only me again.
I've read somewhere that it's to do with the htaccess file?
Please can someone shed some light on installing Joomla in a subdomain.
We did this with our previous hosting company with no problems and unfortunately am not incredibly technically minded, so we're currently baffled as to where we're going wrong.
Any help would be really appreciated.

| I've not installed Joomla but if you post the contents of your .htaccess file someone might be able to help.
I'd also look for a file called config.php and check that it contains the correct name of your site (i.e. shop...)

| Hi, Ken!
Haven't tried Joomla in a sub-domain myself (but will, now you've raised the problem!), but at first glance, a quick look at the page source code shows every link/href pointing straight to magicmicros.com, and NOT to shop.magicmicros.com. This, for a start, will explain why your templates/images etc has not carried over to the Joomla index page. Joomla is looking for the template/css folders in the wrong place (plus everything else). You could try editing the "live site" details in the configuration.php file to shop.magicmicros.com???
I'm guessing that the htaccess trick you're looking for will be some sort of mod re-write jiggery-pokery. Can't help with that, but will be watching closely for an answer!

| Hi all
Many thanks for the replies
I've had a look at the site and the configuration.php file is not there. No wonder the sites not working!!! It seems that the file wasn't written.
I think I may have to try a 'manual' installation, though I am confused as to why the file hasn't been written when I did the installation.
This is more challenging than I thought

Falling flat on your face is very much the best way to learn though, so consider it a positive experience. |

| Ken -
That can't be! The simple fact that I can see the site at shop.magicmicros.com (without any css, sure 'nuff!) means the configuration.php file was written. Otherwise, you'd get a "Page not found" error. I've tested this, just to make sure.
I really suspect that the problem lies with the "live site" path set during your install routine.
John Mc
EDIT : OK, have given it a try. Where I think the Joomla install goes wrong is at Stage 3. It defaults to showing the main domain url in the options, NOT the sub-domain you are installing it in. By leaving it like that, I can replicate the symptoms you are suffering. By editing it (to http://shop.magicmicros.com, in your case), the problem is solved.

| I found the configuration file this afternoon.....made a couple of changes and... voila, all sorted.
Now I can go and enjoy my Bank Holiday weekend and worry about all the site migrations on Tuesday.
Thanks everyone for their help, really appreciated!
