IE 6 and CSS problem

Okay, a reasonably quick question about CSS and IE6.

I've created a new version of my site, There Goes The Fear, and it works perfectly on Firefox 2.0, (almost) perfectly on IE7, but in IE6 some of the content isn't showing up - see the below screenshots.

I thought at first that it was a DIV width issue, but it's not as the content simply isn't showing up, it's not pushed to the bottom of the page. It's not a Wordpress issue either as all the relevant source code is on the page, it's just not showing up. The code is pretty much validated XHTML, but it's just bloody IE that won't show it up.

So, does anyone have any ideas as to what to try to get it to show up?

I only ask because about 27% of my visitors use Internet Explorer, and it's quite a significant proportion of my 200 unique daily visitors.

Thanks guys,

Phil.

without access to the actual CSS it's almost impossible to answer your query - IE6 has a very buggy CSS support and there's tons of documented bugs.

If you can't give us access to the actual site with CSS, then maybe the following IE6 bug sites may help:
Internet Explorer Win Bugs - css-discuss
/* Position Is Everything * Modern browser bugs explained in detail!

Floats & absolute positioning are especially problematic in IE6.

When it comes to disappearing content these are the usual suspects:
Peek-a-boo IE6 Bug
IE CSS bugs when using floats and <code>background-color</code> - Dracos.co.uk

Hope this helps! Edith

And if in doubt try hasLayout - it's the CSS equivalent to a multi-antibiotic and does wonders for IE6:
On having layout — the concept of hasLayout in IE/Win

Other things which work well with floats & IE:
-> use " overflow: auto; height: 101%;" to force floats to stay within containers
.. much better than clearing divs & works a treat!

Thanks for those, Edith. I'll have a peek at them and see if I can work it out. I had an inkling I had to use a hack of some sort, I just had *no* idea which one to use.

The problem's on my homepage - There Goes The Fear and the stylesheet is located at http://www.theregoesthefear.com/wp-c...s/v3/style.css . Sorry, I didn't make that very clear!

Thanks so much for that Edith - I've fixed it.

What I had to do was to remove
Code:
position: relative
from my "maincol" wrapper, and it fixed it. So simple, but very effective. Thanks. This was the site that helped, if anyone's interested.

Now I just need to cut down on my rather bloated style sheet!

Thanks so much Edith, you're a star.
