Question search engine visability

I am in the process of building my new website and have recently published my homepage and two additional links pages. I did a google search for my site with its url, but nothing came up.

Does anyone know why this would be and if I could be doing something wrong?

I can access my site by http:// address in the top address bar, but not by a direct search engine search.

I have another free website, from microsoft office live basics, which I have only written the title. This shows up first page in a google search.

I am very new to the process and logistics of writing and publishing websites. I would appreciate any help or advise on this matter. thanks.

Google won't have the url in its index unless another site which is already in Google's database is linking to it - or you added it to Google's database yourself. Put the url in a message here and you will then have that link for Google to follow. Don't expect to be indexed immediately, though.
