Moved to scripting forum as we cannot offer official support for 3rd party scripts.

You could try adding "perl" to the beginning of your command.

Code:
perl awstats.pl -config=www.************* -update

Thanks Matt, your help is very much appreciated.

bash-2.05a$ perl awstats.pl -config=www.************* -update
Can't open perl script "awstats.pl": No such file or directory
bash-2.05a$

The files seem to be in the right place according to the instructions.

you need to make sure you are in the cgi-bin directory when running the command.

Also your config seems to be named awstats.www.*************.conf and not just www.*****************.co.uk

Although i havent used awstats myself so could be wrong. Whats wrong with the webalizer stats we provide?

bash-2.05a$ /var/www/cgi-bin/awstats.pl -config=www.************* -update
bash: /var/www/cgi-bin/awstats.pl: /usr/bin/perl: bad interpreter: Permission denied
bash-2.05a$

Well at least its a step in the right direction.
The filename & the command line entry both come from the instructions.<shrug>

Webalizer is good as far as it goes, but unless I'm missing something (wouldn't be the first time, lol) it doesn't tell you if you've been spidered, or tell you what words or phrases search engine referals used.

search engine words are near the bottom.

You need to first goto your cgi directory by doing
"cd /var/www/cgi-bin/"

Then running "perl awstat.pl bleh bleh...."

Figured it out! I needed to chmod the file to be executable.

I'll have another look at webalizer.

There isnt a search section in my webalizer. The link at the top doesn't link to anything.

With regards to using AWStats, we tried to set it up on our own site (testing it before providing it to a customer), and ran into too many problems.

Firstly, the logs on UH servers are rotated (the frequency of rotation is set in your CP) - AWStats needs to read from a single log file, otherwise you need to manually update the stats yourself by going to the stats page every time the log file is rotated. We attempted to set up a cron job to update the stats (using a similar command to the one you are running to initialise them), but something very bizarre went on (I think) with virtual paths, as the job was being run by a different user...? Anyway, the single line script seemed to be accessing a different log file than our own, as the error it was returning contained a line from the log file which definitely wasn't in ours!

We couldn't get to the bottom of this, so we gave up. Webalizer (although uglier) provides everything we need to know anyway. Setting up AWStats just seemed like too much hassle.

(PS: if anyone knows what was going on with the cron job - I'd love to know!)
