"Internal Server Error"

Hi everyone

I get a 500 "Internal Server Error" whenever anyone registers (eg: hits the 'Register' button after completing their new user details) as a new user on my Joomla 1.5.3 site.

The only other major component on there is Fireboard 1.04 and joomlXplorer 1.6.3 (both latest stable versions).

Any ideas?

Take a look in your error log to see if anything points you in the right direction.

Logs don't show any issues at all...neither does joomla debug...

One thing that springs to mind and happened on an Oscommerce site of mine.

Are you using an e-mail address that exists on the server?

Say your site is domain.com

You try registering with use someone@domain.com but you have not created the mailbox "someone" than your script mail fail.

Let me know if this is the case.

Thanks

Andrew

Interesting - I changed it to SMTP mail and the error no longer comes up (the only thing is I have another problem now - after submission it redirects back to the create new user page, skipping the confirmation page).

I tested it with known email addresses alas to no avail.

Is this a new install or a previously working fine site?

Installed 2 days ago, but I waded straight in with the fireboard install before testing the user registration.

I'll see if I can try a fresh install in a subfolder and see what happens...

Right, installed into a subfolder, still the same 500 internal server error.

Think I might have to log a support call about this one...

Lets us know if you get a resolution. I am pretty sure there must be something in the error log of the site.

Good Luck!

Try changing the email address the script is trying to email to something not related to anything on the server, like a gmail or hotmail account and see if the form then works.

Usually internal server errors on email forms mean the email address the form is submitting to is faulty.

I think it must've been something to do with that.

Although I did a completely fresh install of Joomla in a subdirectory and that displayed the same problems, despite me being very careful to put the correct email address.

I ended up submitting a support call and the mighty Wilson eventually got it working!
