Mysql shared database question

Hello,
Right here is the plan:

I have one website hosted here, a friend has a website hosted elsewhere and we need to both be able to write to / read from the same SQL data, although obviously it will be presented differently on both sites.

What is the best and most secure way to do this?

Thanks

I seem to remember reading that you are allowed one external user to your MySQL databases. It needs to be a static IP so they can keep it secure, but if your friend is hosting on a web host and not accessing the data from a random PC program, then this will be fine.

Make a ticket and I'm sure UH will sort it for you.

Something you need to consider is if you're accessing a database that isn't local (i.e. on the same machine or in the same DC) to the website there is going to be a performance hit.

You also need to be able to handle connectivity issues (either connectivity between the two web servers or the UH web server with the database on going down).

For security reasons I would recommend accessing your MySQL database locally and from ONE server only. If you need to run querys by it or update it with data from another server this should be the job of an XML-RPC or SOAP type application interface, which could be written in PHP to run on a UH server.

For example, the external server wants a list of email addresses, instead of running SQL directly it will send a request via XML to a php script on the UH server, which in turn processes the SQL and returns the result via XML to the sending external server.
